Sean Spicer Gets a Lesson in Conceptual Art at Big Medium, Austin

Randi Turkin December 11, 2017

Sean Spicer, Not a Fan of Conceptual Art

Sean Spicer joined the ArtProfiler team at Big Medium’s exhibit, Skin Thickthe inaugural show sponsored by Tito’s Vodka which gifts one Austin artist $15,000 and his own exhibit at Canopy, Big Medium’s large complex of studios and galleries. This year’s winner was Zack Ingram, a sculptor and printmaker who combines found images and materials to question the process of identity construction and the relationship between surface and personhood. Big Medium’s website states that Ingram was unanimously selected by a four person curatorial panel.

Skin Thick is a conceptual art show, a form of art that has been popular since the 1960’s. For those who don’t know, conceptual art is art for which the idea (or concept) behind the work is more important than the finished art object. The artists aren’t necessarily concerned with the finished product.

It is safe to say that Spicer was not a fan. But then, these shows are not for someone who lacks imagination.

The show runs through December 16 at Big Medium: 916 Springdale Rd, Bldg 2, #101.
