Do you feel that gale-force wind blowing? That’s just porn star, Stormy Daniels, the latest hurricane to rock Trump’s White House.
On January 12, The Wall Street Journal published an explosive article alleging that Trump lawyer, Michael Cohen, arranged a hush money payment of $130,000 to Daniels (whose real name is Stephanie Clifford) for keeping quiet about a sexual encounter between Donald Trump and Daniels. The pair met after a charity golf tournament in Lake Tahoe in 2006 when the alleged encounter took place, only four months after Donald and Melania Trump’s son, Barron, was born. Daniels, who has performed in more than 150 adult films, claimed in a 2011 interview with In Touch that she’d had a secret year-long affair with Trump.
Cohen provided a written statement to the WSJ from Daniels. “Rumors that I have received hush money from Donald Trump are completely false,” the statement said.
After the alleged agreement, Daniels threatened to cancel the deal because payment wasn’t being made quickly enough. She had been in talks with ABC’s “Good Morning America” in the fall of 2016 about an appearance to discuss Mr. Trump, according to the WSJ’s report. Then, the payment was made, less than a month before the 2016 election. The watchdog group, Common Cause, filed complaints to the Justice Department and Federal Election Commission on Monday alleging that the payment made to Daniels violates campaign finance laws. The group maintains that it amounted to an in-kind donation and should have been publicly disclosed in the campaign’s official reports.
Wait, there’s more:
On January 24, less than two weeks after the initial report in the Wall Street Journal, porn star Alana Evans told People that she received a phone call from Daniels and Trump the night of the 2006 golf event to join them for a threesome, an invitation she turned down owing to the fact that Trump “is no Brad Pitt.”
Of course all this will be old news in a few days. As Americans we are accustomed to being bombarded with outrageous behavior from inside the White House every day. And somehow, Trump will get away with this, too (on top of the sexual misconduct charges he has faced over the years from dozens of women). Don’t believe me? Read this nonsense from Tony Perkins, president of the Family Research Council, a prominent evangelical activist group. “We kind of gave him—‘All right, you get a mulligan. You get a do-over here,’” Perkins told POLITICO in a recent interview. So much for religious morals.
The president is currently in Davos, Switzerland with a bevy of cabinet secretaries for the annual gathering of billionaires, industrialists, and investors — those one percenters who, today, rule the globe. Trump is said to be promoting his “America first” agenda. Melania Trump cancelled her attendance after reports of the Stormy Daniels affair were published, her spokeswoman attributing the last minute cancellation to scheduling and logistical issues. I don’t think this is an overbooked calendar problem. To me, it looks like the First Lady might be the only one left with some integrity in that big, white house.
