Artist Monthly From the Editors

December Artists – Blue Genie Art Bazaar

Randi Turkin December 15, 2018

The Blue Genie Art Bazaar gets our vote for December’s issue of Artist Monthly. Typically we highlight one artist per month for exceptional work in his or her chosen medium, but since it’s December, and all you procrastinators are probably hoping to pick up all your holiday gifts in one place, this is where you should go.

The Blue Genie has thousands of original works by over 200 local artists ranging from serious art to kitschy items, and some of them are just plain weird, which makes Austin the exact right place for them. You can find anything you want here — for everyone on your shopping list, even the impossible ones — including paintings, photography, prints, sculptures, jewelry, clothing, accessories, glassworks, ceramics, organic bath and food products, lighting, woodworks and many more items you won’t find anywhere else.

We have picked out some of our favorite artists including Ryan Lucier of Rhyno Clayworks, Nailivic Studios, The Coggler’s Shoppe and Lightcrafters. The following photos are snapshots taken from our video, so the quality is poor, but we wanted you to see what the artists’ booths look like so you can pay them a visit.

Allow yourself at least an hour to browse and buy. The checkout line can get long on the weekends, so stop by on a weekday if you can. The Blue Genie Art Bazaar is open every day through December 24 from 10am – 10pm (they close at 6pm on Christmas Eve). Admission and parking are free. Bring your own reusable shopping bags if possible, though paper bags are available at the checkout counter.

Location: 6100 Airport Blvd. (From Airport Blvd., turn west onto Denson Rd., then south onto Dillard Circle. The entrance to the building faces Dillard Circle.)
