Exhibiting artist with ArtProfiler, WEST Austin Studio Tour – Nailivic Studios
Boston-native Mark Puente grew up in Guatemala and has always been inspired by images of Dia de los Muertos and folk art from around the world. His pen and ink illustrations are transformed into colorful engravings, which have been laser-cut and etched from milk-paint finished wood and other media. Mark works out of his home in East Austin and is supported by his wife, Amy Exah, who assists in the creative process and the business side of Nailivic Studios.
I create modern folk art by using a laser-cutter to transform my pen and ink illustrations into colorful and textural wall art. Inspired by Día de los Muertos and folk art from around the world, I try to create art that has a story and a message, but remains affordable and accessible to everyone. Nailivic Studios is the company I created with my wife, Amy Exah, to sell art and spread ideas. Nailivic is Civilian in reverse, and the company is rooted in the philosophy that we have the right and responsibility to change society and the world for the better. Art is our tool of choice.
Big Medium’s West Austin Studio Tour (WEST) is a free, annual, self-guided art event spanning two weekends in May. WEST provides opportunities for the public to meet the artists of Austin in their creative spaces.
ArtProfiler is pleased to be hosting 12 artists at this year’s WEST Austin Studio Tour! We’d be so honored if you would swing by to take a peek & visit with us. We are not your typical art tour stop — our exhibit takes place in the home of our creative director where you’ll get a taste of old Austin charm — most of our tour goers grab some refreshments, find a seat on the couch and stay awhile.
*** Artist Talk: Sat 5/18 at 3:00PM ***
